Suspect in custody after shots fired at Wesleyan University

Authorities announced that the shelter-in-place order at Wesleyan University was rescinded on Wednesday following a report of gunfire.

Police confirmed that a suspect was apprehended. Law enforcement officers stated they responded to a shooting incident on Pearl Street in Middletown at 3:24 p.m. and assured that there is “no longer a public safety threat.”

As of now, there have been no reported injuries in the incident.

Police issued a statement affirming, “It was an isolated incident, and we want to emphasize that there is no danger to the public.”

According to their website, Wesleyan University’s 316-acre campus, established in 1831, accommodates 3,000 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students.
