WICHITA, KS – On February 19, 2024, at approximately 7:10 pm officers with the Wichita Police Department responded to a shooting in the 2500 block of South Oliver.

Through the investigation, officers learned that two adult females were struck by gunfire, and 1-year-old Taidyn Anderson was also struck by gunfire and died of his injuries.

Investigators with the WPD homicide section have been diligently working on this case since the shooting occurred.

That work has included follow-up on leads, utilizing technology, and executing search warrants. Through the investigation, three suspects were identified.

Today, the Wichita Police Department arrested a 17-year-old male, a 25-year-old male, and a 21-year-old male all of Wichita on the charge of Felony Murder for their involvement in this case.

The 21-year-old suspect is currently on pre-trial supervision for Criminal Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle stemming from a WPD investigation.

The 25-year-old suspect was on Parole for Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Assault x2, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

The facts of this case will be presented to Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett for a formal charging decision. Our investigation still leads us to believe that this was a targeted event that led to the death of a small child.

“Violence in the community should outrage all of us, especially when it results in a death, and in this case the death of a small child,” Chief Joe Sullivan said, “The WPD remains committed to finding all individuals responsible for violent crime in our community and doing our part to ensure they are held accountable for their unacceptable actions.”
