A shooting at an apartment complex in Baton Rouge has resulted in one fatality and five injuries.

The deceased victim has been identified as 30-year-old Jawan Alexcee.

A spokesperson from the Baton Rouge Police Department verified that the incident occurred at Urban Meadows Apartments on the afternoon of Thursday, January 4th.

Authorities reported that a group of individuals was gathered outside on Greenwell Street when a vehicle pulled up and unleashed multiple gunshots into the crowd around 2 p.m.

“We know that the shooters were in a vehicle, we know that they stepped out of the vehicle, and multiple shooters fired multiple rounds at the suspects,” stated Sgt. L’Jean McKneely of BRPD.

The police confirmed one fatality, and the remaining victims sought refuge behind Ragusa’s Meat Market. The injured were subsequently transported to a local hospital, with their conditions currently unknown.

The parking lot of the complex was littered with dozens of shell casings from the discharged bullets. Law enforcement was uncertain about the exact number of individuals involved in the incident.
