Suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting near Food Lion in Kannapolis
The suspect then brandished a weapon and fired at the officers attempting to arrest him.
Deputies from the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Kannapolis Police Department collaborated on a joint operation targeting internet crimes against children and child sex predators.
Around 1:45 pm, a 33-year-old suspect, who had been engaging in online conversations with an individual he believed to be a 15-year-old female, arrived at a location on Bellwood Place in Kannapolis, NC, under the impression that he was meeting the juvenile for sexual purposes.
Upon entering the residence, officers tried to apprehend the suspect, but he resisted arrest.
The suspect then brandished a weapon and fired at the officers attempting to arrest him.
In response, officers from both agencies returned fire.
While the officers involved remained unharmed, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
