Suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting at Westland and Barbour Streets

City officials in Hartford have confirmed an officer-involved shooting resulting in the demise of a suspect on Monday.

The incident took place in the vicinity of Westland Street and Barbour Street.

Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin stated that police dispatch received a report regarding a vehicle containing an armed individual who was posing a threat to others.

“Officers pulled the car over, and an individual on the passenger side got out of the car and aimed and fired a handgun at the police officer as he approached,” Bronin explained.

In response, the officer returned fire, as reported by officials.

The suspect was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, the officer escaped unharmed.

The state Inspector General’s office will oversee an independent inquiry into the shooting.
