16-year-old Heaven Taylor stabbed to death in Loop, Chicago

Update: An 18-year-old woman has been charged in the stabbing death of a 16-year-old girl in the Loop after Chicago police were contacted by a pastor of a West Side church who told them the suspect wanted to turn herself in, according to a police report.

Egypt Otis was charged with one count of first-degree murder. Otis, of Oak Lawn, was arrested after being identified as the person who fatally stabbed Heaven Taylor, police said. Otis was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

On Tuesday night in the Loop, a 16-year-old girl tragically lost her life in a stabbing incident, as reported by Chicago police.

This unfortunate event occurred around 11:28 p.m. on the first block of Van Buren Street.

Detectives cordoned off the area beneath the L tracks with crime tape and marked several pieces of evidence in the street.

According to CPD, the girl was in the company of a group of individuals when a disagreement arose with another group.

The injured girl was promptly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified her as Heaven Taylor.

It remains uncertain whether the victim was specifically targeted. At present, no individuals are in custody, and the case is being investigated by Area Three detectives.
