44-year-old Sylvester Demetrius Selby killed in deputy involved shooting in Manteo

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has verified the identity of the deceased individual as Sylvester Demetrius Selby, aged 44.

On October 2, at around 11:30 p.m., the Dare County Sheriff’s Office received a report of trespassing in progress in the 1300 block of Burnside Road, Manteo, NC.

Upon the Deputies’ arrival, an individual approached them with a knife.

In response, a Deputy discharged their firearm, hitting the individual, who unfortunately did not survive the injuries and passed away at the scene.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) was informed of the incident, promptly arrived at the scene, and is overseeing the investigation.
