A 30-year-old man from South Beloit has been apprehended in relation to a Friday night shooting that tragically claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Jose M. Sandovaltenorio, who now faces charges of child endangerment resulting in death and possession of a firearm without a FOID.

The victim was discovered with a gunshot wound on Townline Avenue in the 200 block by sheriff’s deputies around 8:00 p.m. on Friday night.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where, regrettably, he passed away from his injuries, as reported by the police.

Sandovaltenorio has been lodged in the Winnebago County Jail, where he is presently held without bond.
