Update: United Airlines has announced that the computer problem has been resolved, and flight operations will resume.

United Airlines Holdings Inc. enforced a nationwide grounding of its aircraft due to an undisclosed equipment issue, as reported on the Federal Aviation Administration’s website.

United Airlines statement: “We are experiencing a systemwide technology issue and are holding all aircraft at their departure airports. Flights that are already airborne are continuing to their destination as planned.”

The Chicago-based airline made the request for its primary operation and affiliated subsidiaries on Tuesday, as indicated in the announcement.

The FAA website revealed that United’s planes were experiencing difficulties in communicating with flight dispatchers through standard channels.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
