Armed man barricaded near Sand Springs Cox Cash Saver, police responded

According to a witness, they heard a minimum of five gunshots near Cash Saver, and afterward, an individual was seen fleeing towards Ascension St. John Urgent Care.

A substantial police presence is currently at a shopping center situated at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Morrow Road in Sand Springs.

Sand Springs Police are receiving assistance from various law enforcement agencies, including the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Sapulpa Police, and Tulsa Police.

Mike Carter, Sand Springs’ City Manager, indicated that the incident was reported at 3:21 p.m. Sand Springs Police initially responded to a report of an ongoing theft at a Walmart.

During their response, the officers encountered an individual whom they suspected to be the perpetrator.

Allegedly, the suspect discharged rounds at the officers, although it remains uncertain whether anyone was struck by the gunfire.

The suspect has since taken refuge in a dumpster near St. John’s Urgent Care, and the SWAT team has been summoned to the scene.

Tulsa Fire Department is also present at the scene. Law enforcement officers are rerouting traffic and urging the public to avoid the vicinity.

Sand Springs Police Department stated we have an armed and barricaded subject on Morrow Road west of Highway 97. Subject is contained but for everyone’s safety roads are blocked off and everyone is asked to stay away from the area until further notice.
