Murrells Inlet, SC — A bizarre and terrifying encounter with a shark left a local man injured in Murrells Inlet on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred while the man was swimming near the popular coastal area.

Witnesses reported that man was bitten on the knee by a shark while wading in shallow waters. In an attempt to defend himself, he struggled with the shark, which resulted in the shark’s fin hitting him in the eye.

Beachgoers quickly came to person’s aid, helping him out of the water and calling for emergency services.

He was transported to a nearby hospital where he received treatment for the bite wound on his knee and a minor injury to his eye.

Doctors have stated that his injuries are non-life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Local authorities have since increased patrols in the area and have issued warnings to swimmers to remain vigilant and avoid swimming during dawn and dusk, when shark activity is known to be higher.
